Why didn't I bring my serger?

Yesterday was Boy Scout badges and uniforms for our grandson and daughter. Daughter needed red shoulder loops since she moved up with our grandson from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. When I looked closely at the old ones I saw that they were serged. Oh, Well. A tight zigzag worked and they were finished in under 15 minutes.

The serger cover is completed

I ironed the interface to the top of the cover and it has provided some stability to it. Since the top of a serger is not truly flat this will have to do.

The robes are still sitting in the stack of not started but needing to be done.

Progress slow on Serger Cover

Yesterday was under productive. However, I did get the heavy Pellon (r) interfacing pined into the top of the cover.
Don't know what I will do today.

Serger Tips I have learned

2010-03-20 -- Always thread your machine with the new colored thread. Do not be lazy and knot the new thread to the old thread and pull it through. If you break a thread you will save time because you know how to thread your machine.
2010-03-20 -- Make the ends of the thread long enough to cut in half leaving half from the machine and half on the sewn item.
2010-04-17 -- Make sure to lower your presser foot before sewing.
2010-04-17 -- Weave the ends of the thread after sewing a seam into the stitches of the seam to make sure the stitches do not ravel.
2010-11-20 -- if you are serging a continuous edge around your project cut into the fabric the same amount as the width of the stitches. When you come to the end of your serging you will not have some stitches look uneven.
2010-11-20 -- When you are serging a project that has curved corners as you approach the curves change the tension slightly so the stitches will be looser.
2010-11-20 -- When you are serging over the previous stitches and do not want to serge off the side stop sewing and with the pressure foot down pull on the needle threads until you have about 3 to 4 inches of thread off the spools. Then lift the presser foot and pull the fabric back from the pressure foot. Now drop the pressure foot down and serge between the project and the pressure foot until you have a long enough piece of serged thread to cut and leave half on the project and half on the needle.
2013-05-22 -- Save the box you took your serger home in. If it needs to go back to the manufacturer for repairs it is the safest packaging to ship the serger in.
2013-06-29 -- Keep all of your serger tools with the machine. If one of the tools is useful in a different area of your sewing room buy another.
